COOKIES

LEGAL REGULATION

On 8 May 2014, the Italian Data Protection Authority published the regulation to identify the simplified methods for the information and the acquisition of consent for the use of cookies; this document was converted into State law, Cookie Law, on June 3, 2014 (see also Privacy Guarantor, no to profiling cookies without consent). With this law, the owner/manager of the website has the obligation to acquire the prior and informed consent of users to the installation of cookies used for purposes other than merely technical ones.

WHAT ARE COOKIES

Cookies are text files containing minimal information sent to the browser and stored on the user’s computer, mobile phone or other device, every time a website is visited. At each connection, cookies send the information back to the reference site. Cookies can be permanent (persistent cookies) if they remain on the computer until the user deletes them, or temporary (session cookies) if they are deactivated when the browser is closed. Cookies can also be first-party cookies if set by the visited site, or third-party cookies if inserted by a site other than the one visited. For the purposes of the legal provision, the Privacy Guarantor identifies two types of cookies: “technical cookies” and “profiling cookies”. Technical cookies Technical cookies are those used for the sole purpose of “carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide such service” (see art. 122, paragraph 1, of the Privacy Code). They are not used for other purposes and are normally installed directly by the owner or manager of the website. They can be divided into navigation or session cookies, which guarantee normal navigation and use of the website (allowing, for example, to make a purchase or authenticate to access reserved areas); any analytics cookies, assimilated to technical cookies when used directly by the site manager to collect information, in aggregate form, on the number of users and how they visit the site; functionality cookies, which allow the user to navigate according to a series of selected criteria (for example, the language, the products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service provided to the same. The installation of these cookies does not require the prior consent of users. Profiling cookies Profiling cookies are designed to create profiles relating to the user and are used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user while browsing the internet. Due to the particular invasiveness that these devices may have in the private sphere of users, European and Italian legislation requires that the user must be adequately informed about their use and thus express their valid consent. They are referred to in art. 122 of the Privacy Code where it provides that “the storage of information in the terminal equipment of a contractor or user or access to information already stored are permitted only on condition that the contractor or user has expressed his consent after being informed with the simplified methods referred to in article 13 of the Privacy Code, paragraph 3”.

WHY WE USE COOKIES

We use cookies to improve the functionality of our site, allow the user to move easily between pages, remember their preferences and to ensure the user always has an optimal browsing experience. Cookies used and their purposes The cookies used on our site can be categorized as follows: Essential cookies These cookies are essential to allow the user to move around the site and use the requested services, such as access to protected areas of the site. Essential cookies are first-party cookies and can be permanent or temporary. Without these cookies the user could not access the requested services and our site would not function correctly. Performance cookies Performance cookies collect information on the use of a site by users, such as which pages are visited most frequently. These cookies do not store data identifying individual visitors, but only aggregated and anonymous data. We use these cookies for statistical purposes, to understand how our site is used. These cookies can be permanent or temporary, first or third party. In essence, these cookies collect anonymous information about the pages visited. Functionality cookies  These cookies allow the site to remember the choices of visitors (for example, the user name, language or country of access) and provide more personalized features. Functionality cookies can also be used to provide services requested by the user, such as access to a video or inserting a comment on a blog. The information used by these cookies is anonymous and it is not possible to track the navigation of users on other sites. We use these cookies to:

remember if a particular service has already been provided to the user
improve the general experience on the site by remembering the user’s preferences.
These cookies can be permanent or temporary, first or third party. In essence, these cookies remember the individual choices made by users to improve their browsing experience. Google Analytics  Our site includes some components transmitted by Google Analytics, a web traffic analysis service provided by Google. These are third-party cookies collected and managed anonymously to monitor and improve the performance of the host site (performance cookies). Google Analytics uses “cookies” to collect and analyze anonymous information on the behavior of use of our website. This information is collected by Google Analytics, which processes it for the purpose of preparing reports for our operators regarding the activities on the websites themselves. This site does not use (and does not allow third parties to use) the Google analysis tool to monitor or collect personal identification information. The Guarantor has specified that Google Analytics cookies can be assimilated to technical cookies only if used for the purpose of optimizing the site directly by the owner of the site itself, who can collect information in aggregate form on the number of users and how they visit the site. Under these conditions, the same rules apply to analytics cookies, in terms of information and consent, as those provided for technical cookies. We therefore specify that on our site the management components of Google Analytics have been appropriately modified so that the IP addresses of users are anonymized. For further information, please refer to the link below: How Google uses dataThe user can selectively disable the action of Google Analytics by installing on their browser the opt-out component provided by Google. To disable the action of Google Analytics, please refer to the link below: Browser add-on for disabling Google Analytics Other third-party cookies When visiting a website, you may receive cookies both from the site visited (“proprietary”) and from sites managed by other organizations (“third parties”). An example is the presence of “social plugins” for Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, etc. These are parts of the page visited generated directly by the aforementioned sites and integrated into the page of the host site. The most common use of social plugins is aimed at sharing content on social networks. The presence of these plugins involves the transmission of cookies to and from all sites managed by third parties. The management of the information collected by “third parties” is governed by the relevant information to which you are kindly requested to refer. To ensure greater transparency and convenience, the web addresses of the various information and methods for managing cookies are reported below.
